You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

Introduction

Hello everyone! I’ve been going through some tough times lately, which is why I haven’t been writing much. However, this experience has taught me the importance of prioritizing our well-being above all else.

We as social animals rely on relationships, friendships, social circles, family, kids, and even pets for our survival in an otherwise cruel world. We often go to extreme lengths to maintain happy relationships and friendships. But have you ever realized that, in doing so, we forget to prioritize our happiness? In this blog, I will discuss five reasons why you should love yourself first before prioritizing anything else.

Your Loved Ones also want you to love yourself

People who love themselves, don’t hurt other people. The more we hate ourselves, the more we want others to suffer.

Dan Pearce

What do you wish for your loved ones? The answer would be that you want them to be happy, healthy, and safe. You expect that they would take care of themselves in every situation.  You would never want them to be sad or hurt. In tough times, you want them to be strong. This is the bare minimum we wish for our loved ones. However, if they aren’t happy or they are not taking care of themselves as you want, it definitely makes you sad. Isn’t it?

Similarly, our loved ones have the same wishes for us as we have for them. They want us to be happy and content, and they care for us just as we care for them. Just as we cannot bear to see them suffering, they too cannot bear to see us in pain and agony.

Therefore, if you are not taking care of yourself, you are actually hurting your loved ones. Your well-being and happiness matter to them as their happiness matters to you. If you truly love your spouse, parents, friends, and kids, you should also prioritize loving yourself.

Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.

Lucille Ball

All types of relationships require responsibility, commitment, dedication, and devotion. Your loved ones need you to be there for them during both good and bad times. They expect you to support them during their sorrows, to be available whenever they need you, and to be responsible in your relationships.

Do you believe that fulfilling your responsibilities and expectations in your relationships is possible if you are unhappy or unhealthy? It’s not.

A person who is depressed and unhealthy cannot spread happiness and love. It is important to love yourself so that we can maintain our health and happiness. We can learn from pregnant women, who must take care of themselves by eating a proper diet and getting enough rest to properly care for the child they are carrying.

Loving yourself brings you peace

You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.

Eckhart Tolle

Many of us tend to be self-critical, focusing on our mistakes, flaws, and other negative aspects of our lives. In some cases, we may even become so wrapped up in self-loathing that we resort to extreme measures to punish ourselves. We should always remember that no mistake is too big for us to forgive ourselves. We always forgive those whom we love, don’t we?

To love oneself means to accept our flaws and help us to forgive ourselves for our mistakes. It is like loving someone with their flaws. It helps us to live with no regrets. It makes us feel good about ourselves which makes us more beautiful and attractive. Loving yourself can improve your life because you won’t be afraid of failures. It will allow you to take more chances and let you live your life to the fullest.

If you aren’t good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you’ll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren’t even giving to yourself.

Barbara De Angelis

When you love and take care of yourself then you feel confident about yourself and therefore, you think less about your looks, social position, job situation, etc. When you are not preoccupied with yourself, you spend more time and energy on your friends, spouse, parents, and kids.

Further, when you love yourself, you don’t seek love from others. This allows you to love other persons the way they deserve which is the right way to love someone.

To love yourself does not make you selfish or narcissistic

Don’t fall into the trap of sacrificing your self-esteem for affection and acceptance.

Ashley Graham

We often believe that prioritizing our own needs over others may make us appear selfish or narcissistic. However, this is not true. In fact, it is our responsibility to prioritize self-care and self-love, as the people who depend on us may rely on our well-being and stability.

To think about others by sacrificing your good may look like a heroic act but it can never be practical. And in this competitive world, if we are not practical, we cannot survive. Never forget that only a strong and competent person can be a philanthropist. So, the bottom line is that you should help yourself first before helping others.

Conclusion

You deserve someone who makes you feel like the otherworldly creature you are. Yourself.

Amanda Lovelace

To love yourself is a valuable gift that you can give to your own soul, as well as a benefit to the people who accompany you on life’s journey. Self-love helps you find strength and resilience and lets you make genuine connections that enhance both your life and the lives of those you cherish.

It may look selfish to those who really don’t care about you. So why you should care about them? Shop for yourself, travel wherever you want, exercise to keep yourself healthy, accept your flaws and mistakes, and live life to the fullest. Always remember that only by loving yourself, you can spread love around yourself.
